We sailed from the Whitehall Yacht Yard, on Whitehall Creek near Annapolis, with the plan of motoring up to the DSC docks in the Baltimore Inner Harbor before nightfall. The boat was a 1970 Chris Craft that had seen better days, but was still a fine boat. My sailing companions were Howard, a new DSC member with lots of sailing experience, and Marc, our skipper.
It was the first really nice spring day of the year: partly cloudy skies and temps in the mid-60s and almost no wind. It would have been a terrible day to sail up the Bay, but motoring — even as badly underpowered as we were, with a 6 hp outboard on a 26' boat — meant it would be just a nice day on the water.
